The UK is on Google Street View!
I walked round Belfast city centre after work this morning and I found that every single car in sight had a visible number plate.m_in_m wrote:A quick tour of a few city centre streets in Cambridge and I found at least four vehicles whose number plates were clearly visible.
I've spotted myself immortalised on one of the images of a road in York - near to the place I go to for my group therapy programme

This moron commenting in a BBC blog is using the Orwell cliche.

But then if there's one thing I've learnt it's that BBC Blogs have their fair share of "poster density".

He seems to be whining about hypothetical invasions of privacy. They haven't even happened yet (actaully, scrap the 'yet', it adds undue credence to his bizarre claims), and he's still causing a british-style storm in a teacup.Street View? Let us bring it down further to Room View and let all those voyeurs get an eye-full.
How long before they link into CCTV networks and get Real-Time View. Connect it through the GPS system and everyone becomes a phone number on a map to monitor day and night.

Well, it's like 95% of commenters in any given space on the BBC website will be busybodies of one position or another. Street View has been around since 2007 and whilst there was a few moans regarding breaches of privacy any which made it to court have been thrown out because they were taking pictures on public land. It's a big old faff, it's not as if they're leaving identifiable faces of people intentionally and no, it won't lead to your privacy being invaded any more than CCTV or traffic cameras do right now.
The Mail today informs me that DOZENS have demanded their photos be removed by google.
In particular, those who had their photos printed in the mail yesterday.
Helpfully, they've reprinted the photos again today, despite google removing them.

"He has to be larger than bacon"
I assume it's meant to just give added value back to Google Maps, which has been diluted by Live Maps etc.
My street is covered, but a bit awkwardly, because there's bollards halfway through, so if you enter by address you get stuck on the 'wrong' side. All very fun though - already emails being exchanged through our uni mailing list about who was captured on campus in the middle of July and why...

Finding our carpark is the one useful thing I can think of just now. Clients never know where the hell we are.
Interesting to see that the office door is open - so that was last summer when I got started, and the place was like a furnace every day. Unfortunately the googlecar didn't drive down the waterfront opposite, or you'd have seen me at my desk.
My buddy and I were looking at our flats etc last night - and he's furious because his tinky neighbour had dumped a mattress outside his communal stair door making the place look like a dump!

My street isn't on yet, but maybe that's a good thing!
