They don't make anything themselves, yet contractually insist that almost all the companies which manufacture for them only put Marks & Spencer branding on the product.

Very few companies get to put 'Manuafactured by Soandso for Marks & Spencer' on the product labelling. Bowyers (the pork pie people) were one of the few.

Who makes their Cola? It's the closest in taste of the alternatives (except Pepsi) to that of Coca Cola, which is just as well since they don't sell anything else in their main shops.

My reasoning behind the graph was a) perceptual and b) based on the factor of the amount of effort that has to be put into christmas (10 year olds get to laze around getting presents thrown at them all day, whereas from about 15 on you're expected to actually contribute to the whole thing, and from then on it involves buying presents for others... and another slump at middle age since you are invariably hosting it for noisy kids). The upturn at the end is because of the fact that my grandparents always used to enjoy Christmas - probably because it was the only time when my parent generation (hell, and mine!) pretended to like each other.

Unless you live here in the North East, where they also sell Coca Cola, and a whole load of other popular brands of food, drink, and household goods.

tilly, have you ever seen anyone on the extra counters they added in the Newcastle food bit?

i was under the impression they'd scrapped that idea. have they not withdrawn the stuff by now?

as for cola, not sure, i know many of the other suppliers but not their soft drinks.

The ones on the far side of the food hall, nearest the clothes bit? They seem to put those there every Christmas, and no-one ever seems to use them... I'm not entirely sure what the point is...

I didn't realise they'd scrapped the idea - the stuff was certainly still there a week or so ago, and showing no signs of shifting!

I had a nice and quiet morning with the parents, then went to the pub (as is traditional), then round my mate's flat for an evening of Playstation, Bells Whisky, and Cheesecake...

I cooked for all 15 members of my immediate family. God we need a bigger kitchen. And more pans.

They built a massive line of tills upstairs in out M&S with about 20 tillpoints spanning a whole wall, and there was still a queue right down the stairs.

"Why do people not give vouchers? Stupid bloody idiots..." was heard at the tills.
