I could never infer any systematic change from such a limited dataset. Anyway I don't think I've been to london before 2001.

Oh it's not much different. The sentiments are the same. The best thing about London is going back home. I do love busy cities but i'm a country bumpkin at heart.
I just like dip my toe in every now and then just to see how the other half live.

Was there ever meant to be improvements in Public transport in London paid for by the congestion charge? I thought it was just a charge to try reduce congestion. (Though I actually have no idea to be honest). But on principle of the new Metrolink logo, or should I say lack of one, I'd vote no. I know Metrolink was looking a little dated, but the stuff they've vomited on the walls at Piccadilly just looks terrible. Don't they know yellow dates really quickly? have they learnt nothing from Merseyrail and Morrison's (or maybe it's just something about the letter M)? Still, at least it's not Stagecoach branding.

It sounds like the congestion charge won't be going ahead (according to Five Live)

Well, if Edinburgh is anything to go by, you'll find that many of the proposals they insisted that could only be funded by a charge will materialise without one. I fully accept that we can't keep cramming more cars onto the roads - but inevitably those who run a car without it being strictly necessary will start to find other modes of transport.

People will get fed up sitting in a car for an hour when the journey time should be 20 minutes - and that's when park n' rides, bus lanes and trams come into their own. Even if I could drive, I wouldn't dream of bothering. I know how difficult colleagues find parking etc when the bus routes are the much faster option. Plus you get a free copy of the Metro too - where you can read my regular contributions to the letters page.

So good on the people of Manchester.

Did anyone catch "Beeching's Tracks" with Stuart Maconie last night on BBC Four?

It was mainly about Manchester and included a section where a girl ran four miles from one suburb to another, quicker than you could drive the same distance.

I didn't realise they were repeating them all. They were originally broadcast on BBC One on a Sunday I believe. There was one focused on each area - but they were shown as a regional opt out so you couldn't watch them all.
