The new file type association panel is horrendous and useless. You can change the program associated with a file type, but thats it. You can't change the Icon, the name, or add / remove any of the other right click actions without downloading a third party utility.

My most recent problem with Vista is a big problem on start up. Somedays it just won't run. It does a search which can't find the Pxefile ( well something like that) then i have to alt,ctrl and delete to restart the damned thing. That doesn't always work. When i do get it up and running, after about an hour or so it goes into crash dump mode.

That "can't find .pxe file" message used to appear at the start-up on my old PC running on XP. It's a pre-boot file that's trying to find a network (in your case your home wireless network, perhaps?). As my PC is wired into the wireless router it didn't cause me a problem and Windows ignored it, or so I always believed.

Perhaps I was just lucky; I'm sure someone can tell you the technical reason why it shows up and is stopping the boot process completing correctly.

Getting the "blue screen of death" is abit more serious though. Both my sister and my mate got this with new laptops running on Vista in the last couple of months. They eventually took them back and got replacements which seem to be working OK.

That blue crash dump screen. If i press F8 it'll take me to the start windows normally or repair startup recommended options. This fixes the problem for a while.
Although now i've got used to using Vista i still find it to be slow. I'm beginning to think i might be better off taking it back and getting a mac instead.

It'd be a good choice as I've told you, Lorns. Do it and don't look back, it'll be like a bad dream (the looking back, not the actual doing of getting a Mac and all).
