Funnily enough until this morning I thought that the transition from NTL to Virgin wouldn't affect broadband services very much. However, according to my mate this morning, he says that his connection is constantly dropping and he ordered some PPV event on telly and it didn't work - even though they debited the cash from his bank account instantly!

Maybe his box is fooked. My BB slowed down a bit but I'd attribute that to the Withington student P2P rush. It's improved since they did some work and I'm overall rather happy with it.

I don't suppose Virgin works properly with the old grey or blue boxes.

You'll have to wait till the red, tilting, ones come along.

Whatever its faults, the internet has to be one of the greatest inventions ever. I'm still awestruck by the power of it sometimes. Unlimited information with a myriad of points of view.

When I first had the internet in my parents house back in September 1998, I was awestruck. The amount of pornography online was surprising, though! Google didn't enter my conscience until about 2000.

And who remembers eGroups? It used to be really good before Yahoo took it over in circa 2000/2001.

Hotbot.com used to be search engine of choice and ICQ was a must-have!

Linksys ain't bad - make sure you don't get one of the new shite models. If you get the right one (I have one and have forgotten the model number) you can even install linux on it!

It might be a 614. Anyway it's been flawless. Without linux.

I reckon it's rooter, I mean, it sorts out routes! Those darned 'murkins are confusing things.

"Roo-ter" would be the correct English promunciation. "Row-ter" would be the americanised version as that's how they pronounce "Rowte" (as in "I follow this "rowte" to the shops) - PLANKS!!
