Other places in the UK use ***** ****** like for example biggin hill is 01959 ******.

But I think Southampton's area code is 023 **** **** and the same may apply to Cardiff and Belfast.
yes, but as i said - the numbers in birmingham are 0121 xxx xxxx, simliarly tyneside 0191 xxx xxxx etc

You're joining the rest of the idiots in spreading totally incorrect information.

The area code for London is 020.

Numbers in the London area are eight digits long and may, currently, begin with the digits 3, 7 or 8.

The first digit of London numbers no longer has any connection with the geographic location of the termination of that number.

Additionally, seven digit numbers exist in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol, Reading, Leeds, Sheffield, Nottingham and Leicester.

As well as London, eight digit numbers exist in the whole of Northern Ireland, Portsmouth, Southampton, Cardiff and Coventry.
