Most of Britains population have never known life without Elizabeth II on the throne.

She's always been there solid as a rock through the countries darkest and happiest times.
Which is my underlying challenge to most people's pro-monarchy arguments. If it hadn't been life with Liz for 54 years and counting, would the monarchy really still be such a big deal and would it really continue to have such widespread report? I can't see it at all myself.

If Edward hasn't have abdicated in the 1930s, he would have gone on to be King and died in 1971.

He had no children, so would our present Queen still have become Queen regardless of the 1930s abdication?
