To those not able to install it on their machines because it won't validate, there is a way to remove the mandatory verification bollocks from the installer. If you want the file and instructions, them drop me a line.
I've got it to install after removing the beta version, and the first impression, like most others has got to be, what the hell have they done to the UI. It looks hideous and extremely cluttered with no freedom to move the bars about as you please. And all of the stupid placement of the buttons and additional search boxes. It looks a mess, all for the sake of it.
Oh, and as for Office 12. It looks like "Word for Dummies" with half the commands hidden away and replaced by large buttons. If that's what the final thing is going to be like, then I'll be sticking with Office 2003.

coughing up all that "Genuine Advantage" gubbins. It's seeing my Windows 2003 product key as a pirated XP product key.

Exactly right, Mark. Lots of pointless changes which simply result in the majority of us spending half an hour trying to put it back (and with so little customisation, there's little chance in that really).marksi wrote:It's more than just because it looked unfamiliar. Funnily, Beta 1 actually had the menu bar underneath the address bar and the tab bar! Completely illogical considering the individual tab pages don't really relate to each individual tab page! But obviously when told to "move it above" the team didn't realise the testers mean "above everything"!

Don't forget this is just the BETA - I'm sure improvements will be made before the final release!
I've been using Windows Live Mail for some time instead of Hotmail, and it's a vast improvement.
I also downloaded the BETA for the new Messenger tonight, but I didn't like it at all, so re-installed the older version.

However, you may well be unable to use IE6 afterwards without doing some registry hacking or even a full XP re-installation. YES - my PC got knobbled after it.
Basically IE7 - as it's got a totally different UI, disabled the old trick us surfing using Windows Explorer. Therefore f you typed an address into the WE address bar it would fire up Firefox or IE7 (depending on your default setting).
This seems to also affect IE6 and you can't fix it without fully installing IE7 and then removing it.

I've just downloaded IE7 - and I must say it is quite impressive...
Alright it'll take some getting used to, but alot of the features are very useful, for example the in-built search bar that you can customize to your specified search engine is brilliant, as is the zoom level of the site that you're viewing. I also like the tabs system, alot more efficient and saves cluttered up IE windows.

I've noticed a few coding quirks that only seem to occur in IE7. Firefox behaves as desired, and IE6 just about behaves itself. Prehaps it's just a beta bug, though good to see Microsoft aren't planning to comply fully with the latest web standards.
