It's not for the loss of the money, it's sympathies for the hassle that follows with cancelling credit/debit cards et al. I know banks are fairly quick these days in providing replacements, and financial losses are covered from the time you report the cards missing - but it's a pain if you are used to paying for most items with a debit card and suddenly have to do without for a few days.
I even have a monthly card for use on the bus to save me having to carry cash, but if somebody swiped my wallet they would get that. I would probably end up down the back of the sofa looking for enough cash to get a bus into town to go and draw money out of the bank.
I'm sure whoever got Jamez's wallet was gutted at only gaining an instant £15!
