I assumed the outcry over the meal deal change was just OTT meaning but going in today and it really is quite a drop in value. None of the far more limited range of sandwiches were appealing and an awful lot of people walked out of the store without buying anything.

Someone in the know on Reddit has said that Boots and Sainsburys have effectively swapped suppliers so hopefully Boots' range will improve considerably soon. That would certainly make their O2 £1 lunch even more appealing.

All I know about Sainsbury's meal deals is that their 'Duck & Hoison' wrap is much inferior to Tesco's hoison duck wrap.

Yes, Tesco's wraps are all very nice. The Hoisin Duck one is one of their best.

But my favoured Meal Deal at the moment is Morrisons; it includes The Best sandwiches and triple packs of wraps, as well as medium salad trays, snacks like mini cakes and some very nice cheese and crackerbread with pickle, and a decent range of drinks including Pepsi Max Cherry. Nothing in the sandwich fridges are excluded so no nasty surprises either.

I don't think I've tried a hoison duck wrap better than Tesco's, I wouldn't ever have it regularly if it was the same as Sainsbury's and M&S' versions.

I'll take your word on Morrisons, there isn't one near enough to me for me to visit regularly. If I was ever up in Warrington though I used to go to the M&S because their BLT sandwiches are the best, or at least they used to be.

M&S do very tasty "light" sandwiches, but I usually end up spending loads on those feta pastry things they do instead.

The bigger the Morrisons, the better the meal deal. My local one does some very tasty hot stuff for the meal deal as well as allowing you to fill a medium box of salad from the salad bar as a main. Complete transformation from their naff meal deal that was around only last year.

Boots are also great as long as the selection is decent - which is no guarantee.

Yes, I forgot the hot counter stuff too. They've recently updated the packaging for that too, so the chips come in a box that seems to keep the them piping hot.

Despite the poor choice in meal deals, I was speaking to an employee who said that they're reviewing replenishment as they sold out of the bulk of sandwiches. TTD sandwiches were also low, despite not being part of the meal deal.

There were plenty of baguettes though.

Agree about Tesco hoisin duck wrap. Had M&S' last week and it had a strange taste. Not had Sainsbury's before - what's it like?

Found it to be a lot messier, I think there was a lot more of the sauce and the wrap didn't stay as intact as Tesco's wraps tend to do. The cardboard packaging had a glossy feel to it which I thought was a bit odd too.

This was about three weeks ago so don't know if that was before or after the recent changes.

Is it just me who'd prefer to see decent prices all round rather than a fixed meal deal?

Boots and Morrisons get away with it because they include *everything* but if I'm at, say Tesco I might want a pack of Snyder's pretzel pieces from the World Food aisle, yet my sandwich and drink already come to more than the meal deal threshold so I end up buying a pack of crisps I don't really want to make it up.

Incidentally the Tesco Finest Salt Beef and Gruyere sandwich is divine.
