I've got used to the littl'uns spelling that way. You should see some of the "text-speak" Emails I get at work. I don't think it's actually an intentional "dumbing-down", more laziness.

You only have to look at the wit and repartee of some of the young board members to know that the ability to conduct a proper and sensible conversation hasn't been lost entirely within the higher education system.

I bet 10 shillings:

(and I do have one too, Mr Nick)

So have I, somewhere.

Probably somewhere in between the pages of the big bible, with a green pound note and an original, huge white fiver.

I have afew of the green One Pound notes. Some with early serial numbers. I also have lots of military currency notes (I wasn't there either) I always wanted to get one of the old white ones.

EDIT:
That was supposed to be a PM to Nick. Grrr!

At least you weren't caught out publicly asking Nick for a weekend away.

As much as I am sure I would enjoy a weekend away with Mr & Mrs Nick, that was not my intention Gavin; as I am sure Nick well understands.

I have some Scottish notes, and some IoM ones too. I find the design aspect of currency facinating.

Now, come on Stuart, have you turned all your aerials round towards Plympton yet, like Tumbly Wumbly instructed you?

You have a whole weekend free, so you'd better get on with it before you land in even more trouble.

The more I see of Mr Wumbly, the more the similarity with Miss Birkett strikes me.

Not yet, I might give it a try next time I have reason to go into the loft - probably in December when I am hunting for the christmas decorations.

In other (completely unrelated) news, does anyone know of a free or reasonably priced robust* virus checker. Lorna was asking me earlier (she can't post on here at the moment).
*exact phrase she used was one that was tighter than a Nun's c :o nt

Well, I now use, and am very happy with AVG.

Here's the link.

I tried Norton and have experience of McAfee; both are wonderful, but far too expensive and slow your machine down to a complete crawl every time you attempt to open a file.

Make sure you (or she) gets the free version of anti-virus, PLUS the free version of anti-spyware, PLUS the free anti-rootkit.

Run the updates daily; the anti-virus and anti-spyware scans at least once a week; and the anti-rootkit scan about once a month.

Thanks Nick. I've texted Lorna with the info (although she is able to get on here to read pages, just unable to post).

I used to use AOL's free McAffee but am quite happy with the Windows Firewall and running Spybot every other day to get rid of new programs. However, Lorna said she wasn't happy with McAffee and claimed it had more holes than a sieve

In light of Mark's post I may try Eset's NOD32 for a while.
