Does this technically count as High Street?
The new British Steel drops Gentleman's logo, forges new one
The main icon which is set in “molten orange” and combines the B and S letterforms also appears to look like three strips of steel.
- Press Release
This banal replacement to David Gentleman’s classic British Steel symbol plunges contemporary British graphics to an abysmally low place.
- Micheal Wolff, founder of Wolff Olins
It could be argued that if they already chose the old name they might as well use the old logo too but I think that using a new logo yields them the best of both worlds: building on an established name but signaling this is a new company.

Here's what Armin has to say about it.

And finally, DesignWeek's take on it.

That has to be a temporary sign or something (or a mistake). There is no way B&Q have the need or finances to roll out such a pointless tweak.

Unless they've got a territorial naming rights issue, why?
I believe they used the Flying Tiger name in Japan - the logo was the same typeface as the standard Tiger one.

I don't think it would be a mistake, every single sign has this logo, from all the signs across the fascia (this is now complete - there are no more building works) to the car park signs, retail park style totem, flags etc.

On a B&Q note, I noticed yesterday that the small one near me is having a closing down sale, sadly. They closed down the bigger one here last year, so now the only one left is the Extra (warehouse) a few miles out which is less convenient. Still painted red on the outside, it got that paintjob in 1998- before that it still had the old-old logo with the backwards "3" in it. The bigger one that closed last year still had the logo that followed that one (pretty much the same but with "&" instead of the backwards 3) on the walls on inside and a sign at the entrance to the car park right up until it closed, though they'd taken it down from the outside around 1996-ish.
Actually found a photo of said store that's about to close that was taken in 1984- though that's not how it looked when I was growing up, it had the outside design with the red, black & white diagonal stripes.
Also seen today that a co-op near me is one of those that's hastily had the hanging sign with the new logo attatched to the side some time in the past few days (of course still with the old co-operative food branding still in place!). The funeralcare I drove past yesterday hadn't been touched though. Clearly determined to get their new (old) logo out there however haphazard it looks!

Obviously not all the stores will get such a refurb but it provides hope that a lot of the grottier looking stores can look much more classy.
Thanks for posting that. Looks good - last time I was in that store it was not a very pleasant shopping experience.

Funny you say that...
Last time I was in, one of the natives was lobbing cocktail sausages in through the automatic doors in an attempt to encourage a stray dog to run in.

Just to add to the Co-op signage updates. My local has also had as minimal an update as possible with the simple addition of a swinging Co-op sign on the outside.

I haven't been to Nottingham for a while but I notice BHS in "Intu Broadmarsh" now has the current branding, just in time to close down.
Argos is still stuck in the 90s though.
Have you noticed on most Argos lorries you see on the motorway you can generally see the faded old branding in the background on the light blue livery.
Talking about lorries, I noticed a 16 plate Co op one the other day sporting the new cloverleaf design and blue branding.

Halfords have changed their logo a bit, noticed it on the new advert
I think it looks better like this to be honest.
