I don't have an Android handset, but I've fiddle with the HTC handsets with the HTC Sense UI and I personally believe it's stunning.

I looks like elements of the UI will be tweaked in Gingerbread (Android 2.3). I don't see it as an issue, perhaps people on other platforms do though.

Well, flexible unless you want to do things like copy/paste or multitask

In what way a big mess?

I'm on a SE Xperia x10 mini pro so I'm stuck on 1.6, but it's not been fiddled with much.

Looking forward to the upcoming upgrade, even if it doesn't bring us up to 2.2 :S

I have only seen screenshots, and Leo Laporte demonstrating his Droid phones on TWiT, so I am only going from anecdotal evidence. I take it this is an overblown view?

I could see how it could be an issue for those writing apps for Android phones but to the user it's irrelevant as you're normally only using one make of phone at a time. I've got an HTC and might struggle a bit at first with a Samsung but it's no matter what shell the maufacturer adds to the OS, they're all based around the same rules and basic format.

Personally I love the UI on my Desire, it was very easy to get used to for someone who'd never used a smartphone before, and it wasn't too difficult to play with and set up to my desires and the totaly control over the home screens is great. After 4 months I'm still discovering new things that I didn't know I could do

I think one OS that is quite underrated is Palm's WebOS. Not only is it a multitasking powerhouse (capable of having 30+ apps open at once), it handles it through an intuitive and graceful UI:

Even the notifications are simply wonderful.

The only thing that lets it down is substandard hardware...everything else about it is simply wonderful, from my own experience. I wish Palm would license the software out to HTC!

Also something that angers me slightly about the desire is the feeble about of internal memory the phone has. It's gotten to the point where I actually have to manage not-very-many apps to make sure I can even install this update. This is one thing apple got right, even if it is non-upgradeable.

No external memory at all? Even my £80 Nokia C3 Blueberry (not a blackberry, but it's blue) has expandable memory slot (up to 8GB)
