I remember quite some time ago Tesco 'discontinued' garlic, so in some blind panic I bought half a dozen bulbs to see me through....the rest of my life. They were, of course, awaiting my purchase the following week. Fascinating.

That's exactly the sort of crap from commercial we have to deal with. The single garlic bulbs changed from one variey to another so the old was discontinued and the new set up under a different order number. At the same time, the checkout operators had to start using a new five digit code instead of the old three digit code. Dot com had loads of off-sales because customers were still ordering (unknowingly) on the old number.

Why not just change the variety at one point in time and continue on the same ordering and checkout numbers? Simple surely? Not to commercial.

The fun for us on dotcom comes when a customer returns a product to our store that they bought at another Tesco, but we don't stock. This then shows as being "in stock" on our system so allows unwitting customers to order it even though we don't actually have it, and possibly never will...

No.

Usually it's some random thing like a corked bottle of wine or some exotic fruit they claim is off. We can't exactly give old crap out again.

Not unless we really hate the customer ;p

The fun comes when you try to return a corked bottle to a driver with little or no wine knowledge.

I always put the original cork back into a corked bottle, so you people at the other end have all the evidence, all the right batch numbers, etc.

We've had many an interesting discussion with drivers, over the years, who just say 'yes it is' when you give them back the bottle, complete with the original cork, and tell them the bottle is 'corked'.

Quite frankly, drivers aren't renowned for their wine knowledge!

If somebody gives us something to be refunded, that's fine.

The thing that fucks us off no end is the liars who phone and claim that items were missing, just because they KNOW that CS will blindy agree and refund.

I've had to ban too many people for that reason.
