"Peacock" has re-entered the urban dictionary in recent years, meaning to show off your style. The logo isnt particularly inspiring, but nor is it offensive to the eye.
If a shopping centre has an empty unit, then it has to pay the business rates. If they have a tennant, on whatever terms, the tennant is liable for the rates. Therefore it will try anything it can to keep a shopping centre fully let.
They only pay half-rates don't they? Certainly centres around me don't seem desperate for retailers. I'd be surprised to learn of any centres agreeing to let a space rent-free to a short-term retailer (unless they already have a tenant lined up for the end of their tenure).
Not sure they ever made it south of the border.

I've had some before in odd places - it's vile stuff, especially those little bottles of pop they used to make.

Since last January, fizzy Panda pops was discontinued

Just had a flashback to my primary school tuck shop and the hundreds of those horrible little bottles of Sangs red, yellow, green fizzy liquid it used to sell. I see they only promoted Mac B water on their website of late, but this is how I remember the company:

Staff at Peacocks head office have set up a Save Peacocks page at
http://www.facebook.com/savepeacocks and it is very sad to see the warm comments from staff and customers alike. Thousands have already signed up since the page was opened this afternoon.
It seems that the smaller local Peacocks are the last fashion stores in some areas and have formed something of a hub for small communities.

The harsh reality of the situation is that if the business makes sense a buyer will come forward - if it doesn't they wont - 10,000 facebook likes or otherwise.

Absolutely, although I'd be very surprised if Peacocks didnt continue in some shape or form. Its not like Woolworths where they failed to change with the times. It is currently a successful retailer, the debt aside.
