New logo for M&S:

Saw it on a print advert this morning and assumed it was an anniversary-linked thing but according to their Facebook page it's here to stay.

Looks nice but they've gone round refurbishing tons of stores recently and now they've done that they're rebranding - which seems a shame.

It's not for stores - just campaigns and print ads according to this in Design Week. It makes sense to try and style food and fashion ads in a similar way I suppose, given that a lot of people have almost forgotten that they even sell clothing.

Overall I quite like the ad campaigns, and they look good in store windows (shame about the model's awful makeup in the clothing ads though). They're really saturating all of the London newspapers with it too - double spreads in the Metro, Standard and City AM this week.

Seems a lot like Sainsbury's during the 90s who had a totally different logo on their adverts than they were using everywhere else.

I'm not sure I remember this. Got any examples?

It's on this archive.org version of their website from 1998:

Quite a few in 1998. I only started working for them in 2000 so I can't remember that far back.

Ah yes, that looks familiar.

They didn't have many stores in Scotland around that time, but I remember the big Darnley one with a J SAINSBURY sign and finding it a bit old-fashioned sounding.

They were still putting the "J Sainsbury" signage on new stores right up until the current logo was introduced in 1999.

Oh, and that advertising logo DID appear on the signage of some stores- I remember seeing it on some Sainsbury's Local branches in the London area, presumably the earliest of the stores to open.
