Our local HMV is closing next Saturday. Internationale next door has closed. They're part of a shopping centre of around 40 units, which is now less than 50% occupied. There's a Peacocks in there, though for how much longer?

I've also hear a rumour that the Northern Bank is going to close it's branch where I live. If that's the case I'll change to the Ulster Bank which is retaining it's local branch.

Seems weird that Bon Marche might outlast Peacocks. Mind you, at least I know what Bon Marche is and who it's for - can't say the same for Peacocks.

Peacocks did have a very useful function during the August riots:

Why do the articles keep referring to Peacocks as a 'fashion' store? Did it become good? I'm guessing not, given the troubles it's having.

Shows what you know Peacocks has been a fashion value retailer for the past 12 years or more, and spare a thought to the people who work there and could be losing their jobs. The company still makes money it's just they have debits it can not afford to pay off.

I think that, together with the fact they tend to spring up in quite low-rent bits of town, answers my question! My friend and I used to wander in there when we were 18 as it was a bit of a freakshow: bizarre attempts to copy trends (a bit like Next do, but less successfully), novelty underpants and horrific blouses. Clearly that idiocy has caught up with them.
