ASDA Living's look is far more superior to that of Tesco Home Plus.

Tesco's branding overall looks very tired these days - it's hardly changed in about 10 years. Whereas Sainsbury's and Asda have tweaked their brands during that time, which has kept them much fresher. Both Asda and Sainsbury's new store interiors look really nice, whereas Tesco have stuck with the same old different coloured walls and hanging coloured signs look for a very long time.

I've noticed on the adverts and on the posters in the windows (not on the website though) that the Woolworths logo is now in lower-case.

Really? Haven't seen it but I think I'll be glad to see the back of their caps logo, hasn't that been around since the early 90's?

If you mean the one with red text in Gill Sans Condensed, that was first used back in 1986 - it replaced the curly W thing and coincided with the time Woolies stopped selling things like adult clothes, toiletries and general groceries.

1986? Held out well but then it would, it's a very spartan "logo" with basic colours set in an ageless typeface. Still, it really did feel old during the last few years and 22 years is a long, long time for any logo to exist though you try telling that to the person who designed the Channel 4 blocks.

Back to Woolies though, it's an odd beast I'll admit when it comes down to branding. They've been through several different batches of fonts and different ways of displaying them, sometimes even concurrently, and almost every single one of those identities still linger on, sort of thing that certain fellows at TVF would have ripped a bollock off the BBC for had BBC News' brand been in the same state. Went in there fairly recently and there's things you thought weren't even part of their brand anymore like how they still use Agenda for price tags when they haven't used it in several years.

Not sure when they last used it but it feels achingly old.

It also coincided with them dropping the name Winfield from all their own brand items (same as the way M&S had St. Michael).

In fact prior to around 84/85, Tesco used the name Delamere for all their non-food stuff, like clothes and homeware - anyone remember that? The logo was in the same American Typewriter font that Tesco used for all their signage and advertising in the 80s (and still lives on to this very day in the time warp Tesco in Hanley, Stoke on Trent).

I'm too young to remember Delamere, but I have seen the old Tesco signage about, the one in Runcorn (Shopping City) still had it until quite recently, but they've finally had a refit AIUI. Other than the promos the whole lot of still looked like it was still untouched from the 1970's.

There were at least three stores in Yorkshire which still hung on to the old Tesco logo: one in Garforth which has since lost the old logo to be replaced by the present logo, one in Selby and one in Mexborough.

I might be heading to Sheffield in a few week's time, so I will see if I can spot what logo is on the Mexborough store on the train there...

The one in Selby's just had a refit. Probably a good thing, it hadn't been touched since about 1975, and had earned the nickname 'The TARDIS' amongst some in the town.

I like the Tesco Express with the black sings, also one in the centre of Bristol like this that I know of.
