They massively about-turned on the slab serif font just after redecorating a lot of their stores with it. Never particularly liked it and it's all a bit of a mess now.

I think it's only Locals that are being kitted out with the Mary Ann font, as Superstores are still opening now with the Slab font. The new Wolverhampton store that opens next week is proudly sporting Slab everwhere.

Yes. Oh for the days when the only font used was Interstate. Incidentally, this is a problem with pretty much every supermarket's branding right now, the exceptions being The Co-op and Tesco.

I notice that derelict Index sports a banner saying "Christmas Discount Shop". The Cardiff store also made way for one of these, which would open in October and double up as a Halloween shop.

Unbelievably, Index (or their owner...Shop Direct?) still pays rent on many old stores up and down the country, including the Cardiff store until next week when the lease ends and it's handed back to the shopping centre.

Index was sold to Argos in 2005.

Index wasn't sold to Argos - Argos bought the brand name, the website, a lot of the store estate and took on a lot of the staff, but they didn't actually buy out the business per se. Essentially they managed to effectively but not literally take it over, thus bagging themselves the best bits of Index and leaving the rest behind.

Although Index has gone down in history as a huge failure, I actually quite liked them, they were cheaper than Argos on a fair few lines. Sadly, they probably ended up being used as free rental shops a lot more heavily than Argos was as they had far fewer exemptions from the money back guarantee, which probably didn't help.

This is reflected in their new uniforms at St Pancras International security screening. Some are in the old ones (teal and green cravats/ties, black blazers, white shirts), some are in the new ones (orange and purple cravats/ties, purple striped shirts, slate grey blazers)

Definitely a soft-relaunch as the mismatch of uniforms makes them anything but!
