Mrs T
She rescinded her rights to be just "a person" a long time ago. Bundled up in that bag of flesh and bones that breathed its last on Monday was a set of ideals, beliefs, behaviours and perceptions that transcended the norm. She was as much a figurehead of the movement embodied today by the current set of lickspittle scum sat on the government benches as she was a human being. She, and her bastard sons Dave, Gideon, Ian and Billy, used and exploited those traits for their own gain. To suddenly relieve her of that perverse aura in death is to be disingenuous. Ding dong. Party on Wednesday.
Yeah WOOOHOOOO! Party on! No more Thatcher to boss us about.Alexia wrote:She rescinded her rights to be just "a person" a long time ago. What's that, she's not been prime minister for over 20 years?
Well, at least all of that HORRIBLE IDEOLOGY she put forward is definitely totally dead and couldn't possibly be seen in politics from here forward! Oh wait...
I'm no Thatcher sympathiser; but I think your post is totally unnecessary. Not at all classy.
Other opponents of political ideologies get to celebrate the falling of their figureheads. I imagine a fair few people celebrated the death of Ceaușescu. And Mussolini. And a fair few US-based anti-Chavez Venezuelans were reported to have partied recently. And, when Blair's time comes, there will be widespread champagne parties on the streets of Kensington and the Home Counties.
So why can't we?
Also, when have I ever been classy? And since when have you cared?

I think the tone of the thread (as you set it in the OP) is low and I'd like to have thought Metropol was somewhat above it.Alexia wrote:Other opponents of political ideologies get to celebrate the falling of their figureheads. So Mrs Thatcher (in some circles) has praise heaped upon her for her "iron" dogmatism, "balls of steel", ability to "crush" unionised workers - yet those who protest her lack of compassion and show equal disdain for her humanity as she showed for theirs are criticised?WillPS wrote:I think the tone of the thread (as you set it in the OP) is low and I'd like to have thought Metropol was somewhat above it.Alexia wrote:Other opponents of political ideologies get to celebrate the falling of their figureheads. You would hold us to a higher standard than you hold Mrs Thatcher?
Why?

Lets have a vote please.
And when Scotland overwhelmingly reject the proposition and its carried anyway, we will truly have paid tribute to the Thatcher legacy.

This really has been a gold mine for the yes campaign. I'm still shock to hear them say. We will win this because of the Tories.Gavin Scott wrote:Lets have a vote please.
