Part of me is fascinated by the coverage of it all - but the republican in me wants to smash the TV into pieces. I live in Scotland too, and I completely agree that there is a lot of indifference. Very few people care either way about the royal family.

Ah part that the problem alot of people up here in sunny Scotland dont feel included. Many councils never bothered moving the local holidays to line up with the Junilee, with many getting just the Tuesday off at best. If you lucky to be in Borders, Inverclyde and Fife who by pure chance of local holidays in the first Monday in may.

To Gav, not at the moment, hopeful that shall change.

People just dont feel connected, and to quote someone from the independent debate, were not monarchist nor are we republicans. How can people dance and sing etc where not even the council can be bothered. I know plenty of people are not getting the day off, saying that is just like the royal wedding all over again, with alot of people not getting it off.

Edinburgh is thought to be hosting a third of all Scotland's street parties, so that 91 street parties in whole of scotland..... well that nice!

I've opted to work the week as we've anticipated that it will be quieter with much of the UK on holiday, so I have a chance to clear down outstanding work. I'm quite looking forward to it, actually.

I was at an alternative Jubilee party at the Port of Leith bar last night. It was excellent. The barmen wore punk clothes and Mohawks and the women wore ball gowns and tiaras. Been asked to a BBQ today which I assume has some kind of Jubilee connection too, although I'm not attending.

I don't hold with the notion that people don't rise to an occasion just because "the Council don't bother". The Council's views and activities bears fuck all relation to my mindset, I can assure you.

If I want a party with my pals, I'll have one.

I think the issue is not so much whether people have Tuesday off, as many do. However as Monday is not a holiday in Scotland it does rather ruin the feeling of a holiday weekend for most.

I hope once I've completed my 60 years in employment I'll get a weekend off too.

Bingo, I know a number of schools are not closed including Edinburgh. There is no trading laws in Scotland linked to Bank holidays or Sunday, due to the federal system of local council determine when local holidays appear, thus all the shops are open normal on Tuesday including the 24 hour Asdas and Tescos
