Estimates in situations like these are pretty much impossible.
Again, a reasonable enough argument that seems to have been lost on the baying mob. They hold onto this "dead in three months" prognosis like it was some kind of holy truth.

At the risk of getting maudlin, my mum was told 3 weeks, and got 3 months.

3 years would have been nice, but having seen the misery of living in pain, I think that would have been more for me than for her.

Similarly, a very close family friend who had terrible throat cancer underwent an operation which nobody previously had lasted more than 3 years after receiving. This was in the early 90s, and he only died this February.
