Oh for goodness sake, it's not about how much time you have to shop. If that were the only consideration then why do shops open for more than one hour a week!?

It's all very well if you PLAN to shop, but what if you're coming back late from somewhere and fancy a quick trip to tesco for some kind of delicious snack.

Just because you don't go shopping on whims it doesn't mean that others don't. DOn't be so closed minded.

I don't mean to single you out, but I am sick and tired of hearing these pathetic reasons why sunday trading should continue to be banned. Strange as it may seem, people have the choice of when they want to work, when they want to shop, and when they want to stay at home. There's no reason whatsoever for these laws which seem rooted in religion/tradition than any actual meaning.

The ban on wheel clamping and the lack of stupid sunday trading laws are two very good reasons for moving to scotland if you ask me.

Could it be phrased in that way to placate pedants who would claim that 00:00 to 00:00 is actually not open at all? Writing 00:00:01 to 23:59:59 is a bit cumbersome!

In most of the Scottish stores it say

Monday : 24 hours
etc
etc

Nothing wrong with planning shopping, even when undertaking special trips. No excuse really. I want one day a week to be different than the other six. This might as well be Sunday for historical if not religious reasons.

There are advantages too, most rural shopping centres have streets which are single yellow lined, so it's possible to park freely on Sundays and conduct shopping within the permitted time, if the special nature of the day was lost then that perk would go too.

You could always take a shower in the free water

When your shifts vary week to week, as mine frequently do, that's not always easy or indeed possible. Sometimes I find Sunday is the only day I get to shop - and this side of the Scottish border, I have to fight with the masses to get all my shopping done on the busiest day of the week (busy BECAUSE we all have to squeeze into that six hours!)

I'd love one day to be different. Unfortunately my employer has different ideas.

I don't understand how Sundays (being a shopping and sporting day to name but two activities) still means crappy bus services. One bus every two hours really isn't enough nowadays.

Perhaps we shouldn't have television or radio on Sundays. And the hospitals could close. Firemen, policemen and ambulancemen could take the day off. Well no, they couldn't obviously.

So why do some types of workforce (train drivers, shop staff) seem to feel that they are somehow entitled to Sundays off?

Here in Northern Ireland large stores can only open from 1300-1800 on Sundays.
