- Tries to connect to access points you're already connected to when you open the browser or email, instead of just using the one that's open. It then collapses in an error.
I'll give you that one. The way the networking is implemented is annoying. Each part of the phone's software treats its network connection as a discreet process so when you move from one function to another it will ask you for an access point even if you're allready connected to one. If you connect to a secured wireless network you also have the annoyance that the network key will only be stored for that specific function, if you need an access point for another function you'll have to enter it again. Obviously it would be better if networking was done the same way as a desktop OS, where a single underlying process manages the network connections rather than individual applications doing so.
The general wifi scanning tells you it's connected to the first access point it found when it connects to the one you've just chosen. It then insists on going into the web browser whether you want it or not.
There is a way around that. Firstly set the phone to always ask how you want to connect. Then just launch your application. When that application realises it doesn't have a network connection it'll throw up the select access point menu. From there you can do your wifi scanning and the raised connection will simply work in that application, rather than the web browser loading first.
There's plenty more - it's not that it doesn't work, it's that it wastes my time.
Fair enough if its not for you, I still think its an amazing phone. And given enough time, I will eventually memorise any idiosyncracies in a user interface so they are no longer issues. I personally would never get on with an iPhone - I need keys that move.

Well my point is, although I've made it in a very roundabout way, that it's a great phone physically but it's really let down in the software, and I think that's the biggest thing iPhone rivals have to fear now. They don't seem to *get* how important good software is and how much it can transform a phone.

This is more of a request than anything, I've got a problem with my Sony Ericsson K850i, it's only occured this afternoon, basically I can make calls, but if I want to make texts, when I access any function other than Write Message all I get is 'Operation Failed', I've tried taking out the Battery and SIM and reinserting them into the phone. I did the stupid thing by letting the phone run out of Battery during work today, but as soon as I got in I charged it up and flipped it back on, even when this has happened before, I've never occured this problem.
Any help?

The same thing happened to me, Sput. I'm on my third K850i now since March. The first time round the touchscreen buttons stopped working, despite the phone not being subjected to anything violent.
I called Orange and they couriered out a new phone to work place the next day, at no extra cost (which surprised me immensely). They replaced the handset; the battery/sim/memory card were swopped into the new phone.
So try your mobile operator. You might be pleasantly surprised...

I'm on O2, I tried phoning them earlier and after waiting I was put through to technical support, he gave me a number for Messaging or something like that, and the number did not exist. But I'll try again tomorrow if not. My friend had the same problem as you with his K850i nothing but bad luck since day one, he's on his third aswell, so touch wood third time's a charm. Funny thing is I've had the phone a year now and I've had no trouble with it..
I regret giving my old K800i to the ex-girlfriend, would have come in handy if I have to send the bloody thing off.

Closest you'll get is the Auto. bookmarks folder.

Usually set all connection settings to 'always ask' or 'Easy WLAN' to give me the option I want. Not ideal...
- Amazingly slow GPS locks (to be fair, might be hardware)
- When you're reading a test message, pressing select first brings up the option to CALL rather than reply. Stupid. There's plenty more - it's not that it doesn't work, it's that it wastes my time.
Make sure you've got the latest firmware v21.0.016 - use any trick in the book to get it. And update all the apps you can, then you'll find things a lot better and more stable - notably GPS lock in seconds rather than minutes.

It's probably one of the first phones to benefit from the iphone's introduction to the phone market, having many of the same features (but actually able to send MMS - which is nice!). The slight disadvantage is that behind the touchflo interface, WM6 is still a bit clunky and takes a bit of getting used to.
The camera doesn't have a flash, but even at 3 megapixel, it outshoots my old K800i camera in good to excellent light.
Like the iphone, there is no keypad, but a choice of different input methods, ranging from phone keypad (onscreen) to transcriber (handwriting recognition), but because my handwriting skills are akin to that of a squirrel sized monkey, results for me on that are mixed!
It's nearly as good as the iphone, wm6 means there are loads of apps out there to download for free, and it costs a lot less. I'm well pleased I got it!
Do you run it on Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync? Push E-Mail via Exchange is a huge bonus of WM6.
Transcriber is fun, but once the novelty wears off it's slower than just using the keyboard.
I personally can't get enough of my SNES emulator which has kept me entertained for many a long train journey.

Yes, I'm using Exchange activesync, that'll make life a lot easier since I have an email account that always needs checking, but I generally forget to check it! Now I know I won't need to remember and I'll just have it ready on my phone.
I've already defaulted to using the phone keypad - I'm very impressed with it's speed and response. One thing you may be able to help me with cropped up last night.
I was trying to organise a lads night, so wrote my text and then tried to add recipients - is there a way of selecting more than one name from the contacts list and add them all at once?

No, but you can set up a Distribution List if there's a group of people you regularly contact.
You know you can just type the contacts' names in the To box and it autocompletes? I generally find that much faster than using the Add Recipients menu.

Yep, I also hate the Nokia Software Updater application. If it updates my phone's software, why does it insist on restarting every time it updates, which is surprisingly frequently? Anyway, I am on that firmware and it still takes about 5 minutes standing outside on a lovely day.

I generally use autocomplete for contacts, but I was going through my contacts to make sure I didn't miss people.
