Yep, only absolutely twats ignore warning signs and do things anyway.

in addition to the oil light, the generic engine fault light is also pretty useless.

i've had it come on a couple of times in mine and the missus's car.

in mine, it was caused by a faulty ignition coil, and a faulty emissions sensor in the other. typically you have to take the car to the dealer to get a diagnostic... at least the oil light points in you the general direction.

Yeah that's the engine management light, many people get that confused. Usually it's an emissions thing.

Had that on a Hyundai... "low catalytic efficiency" -- also known as tiny hole in exhaust.

Well thanks Hyundai I really needed to know about that one!! Why it couldn't have just been left to my ears I dunno.
