I kind of found it funny last night how the BBC commented that China was presenting an abridged and sanitised version of their history (glossing over Mao, the great leap forward etc.). Ermm... and? Not like no other country has done that before!Hymagumba wrote:I bet there'll be no mention of the slave trade or sending children down mine shafts either. damn polish spoliing everything.Chie wrote:... Looking through a few American websites, they all appear to rank the medal table by the total won, unlike it would seem most other countries that rank it only by gold medals.
Is this because the USA is currently second by the gold medals method, but top by total? Surely not...

Yes. Basically it's just vanity for NBC and a few other outlets, making America look good..
In other news, the UK is (shock/horror) ahead of Australia in the medal tally for the first time in many years..a few of our newspapers seem to be getting into a bit of a stew about it.
I don't really care, I think fourth place for a country of our size (20 million people) isn't bad at all! Going by the NBC method we'd be ahead of you lot anyway

Agencies were told to supply the table in both forms so that the US could use the "total medals won" putting them top.Andrew Wood wrote:Looking through a few American websites, they all appear to rank the medal table by the total won, unlike it would seem most other countries that rank it only by gold medals.

If they end up doing better counting gold only it'd be interesting to see if they change to the other table.
