I really like Grimshaw actually - but pretty much everything else I agree with.

out of interest how long has the massively long and absurdly over the top version of this adbeen playing in cinemas?

I've been listening to Radio 1 a lot more than I used to. Probably due to the fact I can't stand the constant ad breaks on commercial radio anymore. Moyles is funny and I like the team he has. Very rare for a DJ to actually make me laugh in the morning. Jo and Edith are OK but, as mentioned, if the latter cut down on talk of movies I would probably listen to the show more often. Scott and Chappers actually makes up a decent show for driving home. Scott on his own - not so much.

On a geeky sidenote, I like their little 'Radio 1 logos' (1tros?) they use at the beginning of some songs. Fits quite well.

Yeah, 1tros. I'm not sure about them but then I've never been sure about anything that intros a song and overlaps with the first 5 seconds in any big way.

I really don't like much of the R1 playlist at all.

Edith Bowman is utterly annoying. I have to switch off whenever I hear her whiny, lispy Scottish voice.

Moyles - He was funny once upon a time, but the big fella is getting on a bit now and should bugger off to 6Music or Radio 2. Only one man managed to remain on R1 into his fifties and sixties was the inimitable John Peel. Moyles should quit now while he's ahead.

There is a remedy for crap music and presenters while in the car - a CD/MP3 player. Best thing ever.

You realise he's 34 don't you?

Peeley only stayed on so long because he was bringing some great new music to the airwaves whereas Moyles is something of an unknown quantity when it comes to anything off of R1's ABC playlists so whether of not he could survive on 6Music or R2 where your own music taste is much more a part of the show's output is questionable.

It has been announced that Edith Bowman's maternity leave will be covered by Vernon Kay, Fearne Cotton and Nihal.

Nihal will cover the show for June, while Fearne and Vernon will share duties for July and August.

It has also been announced that Sara Cox will cover Jo Whiley's maternity leave from October until the end of the year. Presumably this is when she will return, and Annie Mac will remain covering for Sara.

In true BBC style the press office biogs are rather out of date for the people concerned:

• "Edith Bowman co-hosts the 1.00 to 3.00pm slot every weekday on Radio 1 with Colin Murray. " Erm try till 4pm and no Colin
• "Vernon Kay presents the Radio 1 Weekend morning show every Saturday and Sunday between 10.00am and 1.00pm." Erm try no Sunday's he was always off anyway
• Sara Cox hosts her Radio 1 show every Saturday and Sunday from 1.00 to 4.00pm. Erm try on maternity leave
• Jo Whiley: Mondays-Fridays, 10.00am-1.00pm, Radio 1 Erm try 12.45pm

Thanks - sadly that takes me to the press and media enquiries form. From there you have to navigate your way through the BBC contract system. I could always cheat and just use that form.

Is my memory playing tricks or did Jo Whiley used to be a decent DJ that knew something about music, rather than the celebrity obsessed sycophant she is now? Back in the days she was between Mayo and Lard (mmm baby!) there was actually a focus to her show, rather than reading out of Heat and getting listeners to text in music from TV ads that she already knows anyway.

I can't imagine a mid-morning show like Simon Mayo's ever returning to the station, it was absurdly political and intelligent compared to anything that goes out these days.
