I won't be voting, I have more important things to be doing (sleeping from nightshift before, picking up missus from work, watching Heroes etc.) because I know that my local council is assured to be red - you could stick a red rosette on a donkey and it would win.

I will always vote Labour because I'm ever-so-slightly old enough to remember the poll tax and my paternal grandfather and maternal great-grandfather were miners, so I have an affinity for the (admittedly mis-led) industry brutally attacked in the 1980s.

In my heart I am a liberal "Guardianista", but the LibDems are so weasly. I'm proud of being Welsh, but I'm not seperatist - I'm patriotic rather than nationalist. My local MP is the wonderfully active Paul Flynn, which I'm not ungrateful for, so I will always vote Labour.

Trouble is, it's not a comfortable time to be a Labour supporter. I know the council elections will be bad, results-wise, but I would absolutely hate it if Boris was returned Mayor.

It would ruin Have I Got News For You's annual Boris-fest.

Obviously I can't vote, but I'd like to see Boris get in - that'd be good for a laugh. Ideally of course, it would be nice if Labour or the Conservatives could field candidates that provided voters with a credible choice about the future of London. Instead they offer little more than a battle of wit (or half of it) and ego.

It's all well and good that many Londoners will vote for Boris because he'd be a laugh, because that's true, he would no doubt be stupidly hilarious, but is he really who people would like to see in charge of London? The man can come up with policies (like bringing back a modern Routemaster) but has no clue on how these projects are going to be managed or funded.

Likewise, if there was another terrorist attack, or a bird flu epidemic, or a flood, or market crash, or public transport strike, or whatever, it's hard to imagine Boris being aptly capable at dealing with serious stuff, and I can imagine the "he's hilarious!" feeling would melt away very quickly in situations like that. Red Ken, whilst he apparently bastardises the motorist, is probably most experienced and most likely to continue being an effective mayor, but I suppose there's only so long that he can go on for.

I'm voting Independent. The guy running in our area is the only one who gives a stuff about the village.

On the other hand, can't be bothered to walk 500 yards to the polling station.

Ken's promise of Student Discounts for Oyster PAYG (rather than season pass) is enough to sway me!

I remember hearing Ken talking after the 7/7 London Bombings, and you could hear the sadness in his voice, and you could tell he loves London, I just think, how would Boris react in that situation...

EDIT: After a little bit of research, I may vote Green for my assembly candidate, Aled Fisher is 21, a student, and seems to have a good head on his shoulders, but I also like the Labour candidate, Jennette Arnold, who is a feminist, and has been fighting for women's rights for years.

Plymouth is a Unitary Authority and turned Conservative a couple of years ago. My ward is also Conservative and looking at the votes last time there isn't much of a challenge from the others.

I noticed that the Labour candidate is someone I used to have dealings with at work. He was a full-time Trade Union representative and had a bust of Lenin in his office, although his political views made Lenin look distinctly right-wing. If I was tempted to vote Labour that would be enough to put me off.

I think I'll vote Conservative this time.

There were 2 Liberal Demoprats outside my flat this morning. They look on in horror as I stuck my ballot paper through the shredder. Decided not to vote this morning.

So no complaining about any local council services for the next four years then! If you don't vote you can't complain!

Even if you vote for a councillor who doesn't stand a chance of getting in, you have stated your view!
