Also, does anyone else have trouble figuring out when Terry has finished and Ken Bruce has begun? They both sound the same to me!
Hammond would be a disaster, more celebritisation rather than content. Allison would be ideal. As for the Wogan/Bruce handover, that's how it should be, continuity at it's best. It is after all the only opportunity in the network for such seamless radio.

More ponderings... how come Russell Brand has a show on Radio 2? Surely he's very much more of a Radio 1 kind of person?

Also, I've only listened to Chris Evans a few times but I thought he was excellent - maybe he could step into Terry Wogan's shoes eventually?

Sorry but that sort of talk makes me go BALLISTIC. Evans should not get Breakfast. Pleasant relaxation presenter led with no hype is what's needed for breakfast. Evans would introduce audience participation in the form of phone voxpops interviews which I detest with a vengance. I note the form is being used by Michael Ball on his new Sunday programme.

Simon Mayo has been excellent the last few weeks. Hopefully he's being groomed for a full time move from 5 Live

Radio 2 are trying to tap into XFM type market, with Radio 1 going for a more chavvy audience.

Indeed.

I promised, a few posts back, to give Mr Evans a further listen and report back.

My full report will follow after I've had a chance to listen to a full hour or so, rather than the five or ten minutes I managed one day last week.

The one thing I did glean from my few minutes listening, though, was that I don't like the way HE STILL SOUNDS AS IF HE'S SHOUTING AT THE TOP OF HIS VOICE ALL THE TIME.

He comes over as far too antagonistic and certinly not relaxed in any way.

Not breakfast material, no.

I'll take that as a resounding no then ;)

I think, Wogan should start at 7am and go on till 9am, it seems a more sensible time for a breakfast show, however, I don't listen so I'm unsure on the effect this would have on the show.

Radio 1 is leaving me bewildered and a little bit moist at the moment. I would be inclined to agree with your assessment of their target audience, if it wasn't for their current cinema campaign which is trying to position them as being attractive to everyone - including the purist audiophile, which surely can't actually be convincing anyone?

Re: Simon Mayo, I believe he has taken Mark Goodier and Richard Allison's role at Radio 2 as main "swing-jock", heard a bit of him sitting for Ken Bruce recently when at work and remembered how good he was at the music radio format, although I only ever really listened to him on Radio 1 for the Golden Hour in his last few years there.

Mayo could fit the job description for Breakfast amicably. I still would prefer Allinson to take it though.
