Scones (pronounced Sc-onn-s NOT Sc-own-s (as in rhymes with Zone)) were muchly appreciated by me on Falmouth harbour front near the former Pirate Inn, opposite Tragos, with jam and butter, but only a slight bit of clotted cream as I find it sickly.

Here at home mind we prefer Welsh Cakes, or bakestones (named after the piece of solid cast iron they are baked on) although being a fruitophiliac I prefer plain ones to ones with sultanas. They are dryer and flatter than scones with a harder crust, but are the perfect accompaniment to a cup of hot sweet Glengetti made with semi-skimmed milk.

So the local names for Scones seem to be prevalent. I am think this is important... TBH I was expecting more of a negative view, but I guess making them seem modern and 'cool' wont be that big an issue...

I should perhaps point out that the Falmouth episode occurred in 2004, and that my scone consumption since then has been slightly less frequent than a Barcode post with no SPAG mistakes.

It is pronnounced Skownes and the fruit in scones are really dead flies. My brother wised me up to that little fact when i was 5. It's as true as Santa Claus.
