I knew it wasn't QUITE a split infinitive, but was pretty, darn certain it was WRONG!

I used to love the following sign on a friends entrence to his block of flats:

The management will not tolerate any body dumping within the grounds.

of course the sign was in all CAPITALS and underligned.
The only thing that coudl have made it worse was if it was in Comic Sans.

Oh yes, quite, quite wrong.

And clumsy too. I can excuse a certain amount of wrongness if there's an element of elegance and grace

And heavens at the Turtle reference. Must be 5 or 6 years since I used that moniker.

I must say I find the main problem with laminated signs is that the people who write them have no idea about sign writing

Till number 10 at tesco recently had a problem where the belt moved four times the speed it should have done. The sign was along the lines of

"Please could customers using this till lie botles down on the belt to prevent them falling. Thank You"

Which nobody read as it was too wordy and in all caps.

If it had read

WARNING
VERY Fast Belt
Lie Bottles Down

Then it would hyave been far more effective.

Close in Scotland refers to the shared stairway in a tennement (flats)
