Agreed Mark, your point is accepted. My code is meaningless otherwise

Well, read the bloody codes, then.

Buy SH/P not SH/SC

What'll be interesting is that once 2010 becomes referred to as 'twenty ten', will 2000-2009 by retrospectively referred to as 'twenty hundred', 'twenty-oh-one' etc? And it what point does it become acceptable to refer to a year by just the last two digits in speech?
So does that mean we're currently on T7?
Surely we're on C21/7? Obviously, you need to be aware of which century we're in, it would be confusing to refer to the year as a number in the 2000s when we're in the 21st century, so 2000 is abbrieviated as C21. From then on, each extra year beyond 2000 is noted by a slash followed by the number of years past it.

It just makes sense!

The romans had it all planned for 2000 - they knew they could party and just call it "MM". Their plans went somewhat awry. Nothing like forward planning though.

However, my parents (perhaps like Tumble Weed's) found it rather disturbing when I was talking about my 21st birthday in MCMLXCII

I thought it sensible . After alot of medication (mainly alcoholic) I got over it.

2010 will of course be MMX. :o (remaining Parent runs for hills!!!!!!!!!!)

I bet TT was pissed off when the world didn't end in 2000. "Oh my God, I've got to go and issue some more codes! Some people are so inconsiderate

Well, we generally already say, for example, ten-sixty-six and nineteen-eighty-four, so why would twenty-ten be any different?

I generally say twenty ten as well. Why do people bother saying 'two thousand and ten?' You've wasted half a second of your life on an extra syllable, half a second of your life that you're never going to get back.

That said, if you say 'twenty oh seven' it just sounds plain odd, like you're announcing the time on the World Service.
