How did you know that

The question of the preferred "modus operandi" for suicide has oddly been a recurring subject for discussion in many of the offices I have worked. Some of our well considered (and not neccesarily serious) conclusions are:

Jumpers
You would have to be fairly careful about your choice of location here to make sure you didn't just hideously maim yourself and thereby leave yourself without the ability to repeat the task with more success at a later date. The Tamar Bridge is a favoured spot in Devon/Cornwall. But many have chosen to leap other than at high tide, with the consequence that they simply ended up with their shattered limbs stuck in the mud - only to later drown as the tide came in.

Alcohol & Prescription Drugs
Again you would have to plan well here to ensure that you did this properly. Although you may not be conscious you could end up either choking on your own vomit, or dying slowly in ITU days later as all your vital organs failed one by one.

Blowing Brains Out
The most certain demise is by use of a sawn-off 12-bore shotgun. Very messy (not that you would care), but doesn't lend itself to an open topped coffin at the funeral for all your relatives and friends to grieve over after your passing.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning (Car Exhaust fumes)
Also with a good success rate (assuming you aren't disturbed prior to completion). However, you would have to ensure that your location wasn't so secret that you weren't discovered for days or weeks afterwards. Your corpse oozing into the upholstery wouldn't be good for the retail value of the car.

Drowning
Quite difficult as a suicide option because of the body's autonomic response to either not breathe or to try to swim. Also not very quick or pretty for the funeral as your corpse would be bloated!

As for Shaun's original question - I've had the misfortune to know a couple of people who I would have gladly led to a rooftop and talked them into jumping

I tried carbon monoxide poisoning once. I woke up 7 hours later with a slight headache. Turned out the bloody thing had a catalytic converter.
