Have you checked the bios, if its an on-board sound card, it may have been disabled in the bios. If not, check the wires arent damaged.

Don't get any bright ideas about doing a full system management repair restore thingy or reinstall windows to set the pootah back to how it was when it left the factory. I did that once and deleted all my files in the process. It didn't fix the problem i had either.

You live and learn!
Yes well that's just stupid isn't it.
Yes! That's the foomphtieth time someone has said that to me in the last few weeks along with... " Why the f**k did you do that"? A copper said my files are retrievable but i will have to have done loads of illegal stuff for them to take it and find the files for me. So it looks like i'm shit out of luck for retrieving them. It actually seemed like a good idea at the time, so i suppose all those people can't be wong, i am very, very stoopid. I just felt the need to pass on my knowledge.

Glad you got your problem solved with a simple system restore Reevesy.

It usually tells you at least twice when you run that stuff that that you run the risk of loosing everything on the drive, plus once again in the literature and again on the printed CD.

It may be possible to recover the files, it may not be, it depends on how the recovery software works and where your files were physically stored as to where the recovery software puts its recovered files. Which basically means you can try, but don't hold out any hope of finding anything.
