And just to make it even more bizarre, I've also experienced exactly the same thing. Is this some kind of insect revolution in its early stages? We must prepare.

Sunny Leith, on the north side of Edinburgh where my office is based, was utterly swamped by a plague of shiny winged flies.
They were bouncing off my head, getting stuck in my hair, and several attempted to enter my mouth as I stood at a bus stop.
Horrific. It really looked like some biblical inundation.
None in or around my flat which is a little south of there, so they seem to be localised to coastal areas.
