Even that I'm beginning to question. About a year ago I'd have agreed wholeheartedly that macs win on the looks front. Then I converted my PC into a mac skin (using Flyakite OSX) and enjoyed it for the first 5-6 weeks, but then missed the Windows look, and I've never looked back having deleted it. While macs are nice for first impressions, it's all just a bit dull once you get used to it (how much bloody white and transparent plastic can you get!)

I'm still not convinced by the whole Apple thing, TBH I expected cat to tell me how great they are.

I'm now thinking about going with a Dell and then using the spare money to buy a digital SLR camera.

However, it's ever-so-slightly annoying that the same laptop in the "good ole" US of A costs about £850 rather than £1,100! Shocking! I could fly to New York and back to get one and still have change...

But you have voltage etc to worry about, wrong keyboard layout etc etc.

Buy a refurbished laptop - they are so much cheaper and the amount of checks they go through means they're probably in better condition than the ones in PC World (not that it takes a lot).

laptopshop.co.uk and laptops-direct.co.uk sell them, the latter are excellent. When I ordered my Acer with them a couple of years ago (pre-Mac) I phoned at 3pm and it arrived at 9am the next day.

If you decide on a PC, whatever you do it's good advice to wait for a laptop installled with Vista as OEM (pre-installed). It would save you the ridiculous cost to upgrade to Vista from an XP laptop, and you'll only have to wait less than a year.

I would do, but as I said on the previous page, I'd quite like it for my one month stint in Manchester in a fortnight.

How about a second hand Apple laptop off ebay? You could sell it when you're done in Manc (what brings you here anyway?) and will have had a chance to evaluate the wonders of Tiger.
