Oh they were good. I had those leather laces on my wrists just like Morten Harkett. When I went in the bath they would leak tannin and make my body orange coloured.

I never got the impression they were, "boy band". They had that love thang in the, "Take On Me" video, did a Bond theme and all round seemed quite sophisti-ma-cated.
This is probably more 90's but i imagine you to have been into the Bros thing of wearing Grolsch lids on your shoes too Gavin ;)

Let us not forget that the 80s was the decade of...

Stefan Dennis's pop career.

If you feel so inclined, I have uploaded his only top 30 hit for you to listen to...

Enjoy, I think. :?

My favourites from the 80's? Right, well these aren't all necessarily remembered as 80's acts but they all turned out great things in the 80's:

Madonna (the material she turned out in the mid-late 80's period is still head and shoulders above anything she's done before or since imo)

The Bangles

Belinda Carlisle

Blondie

Bonnie Tyler

Simon & Garfunkel

Europe

And I'll probably think of a few more later on. I'm afraid the proliferation of synethesized crap from the likes of the Pet Shop Boys never did it for me though.

Yes, you've got a thing about him, haven't you? ;)

I don't think you can even all it a career, if he produces such ear spllittingly bad song as that. Another one to add to the list of god-awful pop stinkers.

Mind you, Germany isn't famed for its music excellence. It's the home of Jamster and that Schnappi Das Kleine Crocodil song.

I believe he also had a follow up hit. Can't even remember the title of it now but I recall it being a TOTP exclusive! ;)

There's no shame in recognising genius. ;)

I do wonder about the thought process that led both Stefan and the record company chiefs to believe that he was destined for a successful pop career.

You're about Germany - David Hasselhof's singing career is also huge over there.

How come no-one has mentioned The Smiths yet?

Until now.

Shoot me if it not the 90s, but West End Girls by the Pet Shop Boys gave me an 80s feel.

Does anyone else on the Lounge have any of the recently released 12"/80s compilations? I would advise anyone who is a fan of 1980s music who hasn't got these to invest in them - an excellent collection of well-known and not-so-well-known gems in extended or 12" remix format.

See also The Real 80s and Electric 80s triple CDs.

Classic 80s! Best decade for music...I wish I was this age now but back in the 80s - I'd be able to have a massive mullet and wear polo neck sweaters and it would be acceptable.

The 80s did give us some great music though - A-ha, ABC, Erasure, Duran Duran are of course the kind of classics.

But don't forget other gems such as Bananarama, Adam & The Ants, Aztec Camera, Bucks Fizz  , Haircut 100, Heart, Human League, Kylie of course, Terence Trent D'Arby, Starship, Steve Winwood, Yazoo, Wham!

Oh, so many.

Starship are one of my favourite 80s bands - especially with the feel good anthem Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now!! Top Tune

Former Tea Boy Rick Astley is another 80's Icon, with such gems as Together Forever, and Never Gonna Give You Up

Most of the Stock, Aitken, and Waterman stuff was good if but a bit tacky sometimes.
