I HAVE actually done that with a case of Chasse du Pape at Safeway, a couple of years back.

Mind you, the wine WAS well and truly corked, so I didn't feel the slightest bit cheeky.

YES, they did refund AND replace (with a completely different batch number) without so much as a quibble.

Btw, has anyone else read "Shopped" by Joanna Blythman?

I picked it up as something to read on the train and couldn't put it down.

It's an exposé of how supermarkets abuse their power, bully suppliers, use dubious means to obtain planning permission for new stores and pay no respect to their employees.

Excellent read!
