Make Firefox Faster!
well IE is a bit different isn't it what with being half the OS shell.cdd wrote:And iE
That lastest problem with Firefox is quite interesting not for the bug itself but for the way it was released. The guy who found it reported it properly using bugzilla and ticking the "hide me, I'm secret" button. Then while they were concocting a fix someone leaked it to that annoying secunia company who enjoy to spread paranoia and panic about every new bug in any piece of software.
"omg there is a theoretical problem in IE where you could have your computer taken over if you sit with your legs behind your back and piss through the eye of a needle" and then - as always - tell you to turn off javascript. You wonder why you should turn it back on with that company around.

Think I'll dump this in here:
http://www.mozilla.org/firefox - download Firefox 1.0.4, patch the security hole discussed in this thread and also some stuff to do with DHTML errors.

These security holes are just so pedantic and stupid though.
1) I have everythign backed up so even if the worst came to the worst I wouldn't have lost a byte of data
2) The rampaging hackers who the media spends its life scaringus about would find absolutely NOTHING of interest on my machine.
In fact I have a theory that any hacker prowling my hard drive would die with boredom within five minutes.
Hence, I have no firewall, no anti-hacker software, no virus protection, etc. I've even disabled the stupid firewall on my router because it's just a bore. As long as reasonable care is taken you will NOT get a virus... simple as that. I mean, please; NOBODY opens EXE files appearing out of nowhere... similarly for doc, pif, scr, whatever. Anyone stupid enough to do so practically deserves to get a virus. Same goes for people who don't bother to back up.
Still, it's amazing how well Norton Total Security Suite sells
And hey, if £150 or whatever disengages people's frantic paranoia about hackers then maybe it's worth it!
If ANYONE can justify to me why I would need a firewall, then I'll quite happily RUN to the shop and buy one... but until then I'm quite happy using my computer to play games, browse the internet, play music, record TV programmes and write word documents, thank you very much.

The ammount of stuff my little brother's computer has picked up since I formatted the HD (5 days ago) is amazing. And that's with 2 firewalls and Firefox... oh and that funny Microsoft AntiSpyware thing. Makes me even more glad I use a Mac.

Aaaah, little brothers... yes, that's amazing isn't it, they're like a magnet for rubbish on computers. I simply make a policy of not allowing my brother to use mine!Fireboy wrote:The ammount of stuff my little brother's computer has picked up since I formatted the HD (5 days ago) is amazing.
