The restricted sites method works for me - as I've said, I get no flash ads or any other sort of crap - only a white box - see pictures below.

Other than that, I get the occasional GIF ad, which I have no problems with.

I don't have a problem with the ads as such - so long as they don't affect the performance of my computer or do anything nasty or annoying to it, such as annoy me with puerile noises or pointless dizzying animations.

Although I think the BBC need to tighten their IT security policy - looking though the logs and specifically from the hits from the BBC's proxy servers, there appear to be some machines that have been installed with unwanted crapware - the "FunWebProducts" UA string indicated that some crapware like Smiley Central has been installed; this comes with the pain-in-the-arse to remove "MyWebSearch" which hijacks your IE settings.

A free programme called 'Adfree' blocks all adverts and you can replace the area with White, Black, Grey or also a picture of your choice.

I'm getting the same message on Digital Spy Forum pages this evening, and have found that something on some of those pages is trying to do redirect the browser to http://65.57.104.91/a/RealMedia/statsco.

Same here. The DS staff are aware, and probably won't do a thing about it and accuse the members of doing it.

I have sent a message to James Welsh about it.

Well, you know what DS are like nowadays - "use the contact centre", "please do not discuss banned members" *clang* *clang* etc.

They used to have a feedback forum where members could discuss the site, but in recent times they have pulled it in favour of their (IMO) ever so shite contact centre.

The feeling I get when using the contact centre is that I am contacting the members of some faceless organisation who doesn't give two flying shits about their customers/members, much like when I try and contact Dabs or eBuyer. ;)
