I always thought the Coca-Cola Light/Lite thing was legal - i.e. in the UK, they are obliged to call it "Diet" and not "Lite" because of what it contains. No idea if that's true or not.

We went to Spain in the late 1990's and remember that Walkers were Frito/Lay (can't remember which one) but they had a promotion that showed their Brands and products across the World, well that mainly being Walkers and Frito Lays. I also remember that they had Huge bags of Cheetos available, in Cheese and Tomato Ketchup flavour, though Cheetos ended in the UK when Wotsits were bought by Walkers.

Oh yeah, this one always bugs me. Vauxhall and Opel? Why is it Opel everywhere in Europe except the UK?

Didn't they switch them so that "New Coke" became "Coca-Cola Classic", and what was "Coke" then "Classic-Coca Cola" is now just "Coke" again? Both are certainly on sale.

I get a varied selection of Coke Lite/Light as well as the ROI Diet Coke varients from my local newsagent. Evidently it is cheaper (or at least offers the retailer a larger margin) than the UK version.

The Polish one is my least favourite. Even if the recipe was the same (and it's not), the main ingredient is locally sourced water, and that makes it taste unpleasantly different.

You can't beat Chip Shops and crappy Newsagents for Foreign Coke, I don't think I know any Newsagents that sell the proper UK stuff.

Anyway there was Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola had its recipe changed to improve sales, this became known as 'New Coke', sales declined, so it was recommended that the old style Coke would be brought back, the old Coke that was brought back was named as 'Coca Cola Classic', 'New Coke' was quickly phased out and the Coca-Cola that is known in the rest of the World is still known as Coca Cola Classic in the USA.

It's far cheaper to import Coke from other countries than it is to buy from local cash and carries - hence why you get them in burger vans and newsagents and so on and so forth... but it's also completely illegal!

As a sad get child I used to collect the foreign cans and have quite a collection somewhere. And yes, they DO taste different!

In fact, I'm currently drinking a Dutch Cherry Coke from my local chippy and it seems to taste sweeter. Might be making that up but it certainly seems that way.

Err...

I had to edit my post about 40 times because I just couldn't express what seemed simple in my head. Now it doesn't.

You can still buy both in the states. That much I have experienced. Does that conflict with what you are saying?

I've always hated calling it 'Coke' for some reason. I just feel that it's kind of a lazy way. I always call it Coca-Cola (except with Diet Coke. They should rename it to Coca-Cola Diet or Light).

AFAIK it's the same as the UK, except Coca-Cola is called Coca-Cola Classic. The bottles are also different.

New Coke died in 1986/7.
