Personally, the tune that annoys me most is the 'Nokia tune' - I HATE IT!

Both my Nokias use the "low" single ringtone.

My colleague however has the theme from Captain Pugwash, and manages to leave it at his desk unattended each time someone wants to get in touch.

I can't seem to get my head around ringtones. I'm not a luddite by any means, but when a phone rings the point surely is to answer or reject it right away - rather than waiting for the phrase of a song's chorus finishing?

So nobdy got Sweety the Chick then, or derivatives thereof?

I've left mine on the default ring-ring, suits me fine, does the job. It also has the added benefit of not causing embarrassment while on the bus.

My ring tone is a cockerall.
I have to have an irritating ring tone to make me answer the damn thing. I used to have angels by Robbie williams but of instead if answering i would sing along until the caller hung up. Friends, family and the occassional stranger would beg me to answer it.
I didn't realise so many people hated Robbie

What is it exactly that drives this pureile obsession with ringtones?

Ringtones only became a really big thing when the 3310 came out in 2001 if I remember rightly, being the first phone to have customisable ringtones, and of course, the composer.

They went out of fashion in 2002, only to come back in with the introduction of Polyphonic ringtones early in 2003.

The obsession quitened down during the end of 2003 and 2004 but 2005 has seen it all come flaring back up, thanks of course to the Crazy Frog and Sweety the Chick!

There was, of course, also the customisable answerphone message thing that surfaced in 2001, although I don't remember it really ever taking off in the way the ringtones did.

If there's one company I would like to see go out of business at the moment, it would be Jamster (or Jamba as they're called in Germany). I absolutely despise their adverts on TV, and the fact that they are like buses - you wait and then three of them come along at once, complete with irritating ringtone sample and some fucker with a squeaky high pitched voice telling you to text (code) to 82228. AAARGH!!!!!

Personally, I hate this crap they produce. From a business point of view, it is easy money, and yes, the saying "there is always some sucker out there that will buy it" definately rings true - I read somewhere that the Crazy Frog made around £10million in revenue for Jamba/Jamster.

Whilst I do not advocate cruelty to animals, Sweety the chick should have been boiled when she was an egg and the crazy frog should have been elimanated when he was frogspawn.

I fail to see the point of customisable ringtones, apart to make money from suckers (the ones that subscribe to these services thinking they only are buying one tone for the bargain price of £1 only to find that they get four of these sent per week and all of their credit is gone) and to irritate and annoy people in general by cycling through them in a public place.
