The priority in this country should be to look after homeless people and those less fortunate who scrimp and scrape .I do sympathise with asylum seekers but there is enough in this country it's time to get tough where they are concerned.

This asylum seeker thing pisses me off, personally.

Look at all the people coming into our country. They work their socks off. They have a real work ethic. They have a lot to offer the country, both economically and culturally.

The greatest threat to this country's prosperity and wealth are the millions of uneducated, unmotivated white trash (aka chavs, charvas, NEDs, scallies) who offer nothing except queueing up in a line for their giros every fortnight.

An asylum seeker whose claim is accepted is a British citizen. So where do you propose to draw the line? Should a five-year-old who is seeking asylum as part of a family fleeing from persecution then be unable to give birth in an NHS hospital thirty years later despite having paid taxes all their working life - assuming they have a working life, since you'd presumably not offer them state education? Should an adult asylum seeker who develops Hepatitis C, which they are statistically more likely to do, be left untreated to infect others? Should they be left on the streets to turn to crime rather than being provided with housing?

It just isn't as simple as saying 'They haven't paid for it, therefore they shouldn't use it'.

Ermmm...thats not the case with all immigrants and i'm sure if you asked those residents in the areas that see large amounts of asylum seekers, (Dover etc) they would tell you that the work ethic amongst some of them isn't exactly what you would hope.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I just think its a topic that is taken to extremes by both political wings and as you are a lentil munching lefty johnny, I expect you know what I mean.

You make a good point. I actually don't live in an area with an immigrant population - that will obviously not have coloured my opinion!
