As a Morrisons employee I think the logo is crap and very outdated and is long overdue for a change, but the bag is something that I actually like, compared to previous designs that looked tacky this current style is better IMO, the new font they introduced last year looks better too.

Though I agree Sainsbury's always looks nice inside, always that nice shade of blue and orange, even in Locals! But as said prices aren't brilliant.
Indeed about Morrisons. I went in one just before Christmas due to Tesco running out of sausage rolls (!). The one at Bradford (John Street) is like its never been refurbished since the 70s. Flimsy bits of card hanging above the aisles telling you what is in each aisle.
To make it worse the customers were like a chavs day out and all the bags of sausage rolls were split leaving hundreds of them loose at the bottom of the freezer!

They should really modernise their logo but to be honest, knowing what design agencies are like these days, it would probably change to "morrisons" written in lower case purple font or something equally daft

Some of the stories are shocking - ntw2003, are conditions really that bad?
To be honest No, alot of these stories are from stores that were once Safeway, though I fully agree on what alot of people are saying, as Morrisons has taken away a brilliant Supermarket, that being Safeway and it being replaced with something going back 30 years in time. Now the comments about the managers being 'Dinosaurs' is somewhat quite true IMO, their approach is old fashioned, they're never really in their office most of the time, they're on the shop floor just pissing people off!

Now luckily I can say that the Morrisons I work at is probably one of the lucky few, simply because it wasn't built in the 1970's (1994 infact!) and that it is not a converted Safeway store. Plus I think the store I work at is one of the most successful as earlier last year we were one of the selected stores for Safeway managers to look around in to see the 'Morrisons Culture' The comments about managers being paid fuck all to work loads of extra hours is very true, we have managers who work more than 40 hours a week with no extra pay, the only extra pay they do get is if they come in and do an extra day or something.

And The Times article has to be a joke! Ken Morrison visiting a store at 2am to check a Night shift! Yeah right, he was supposed to turn up at our Morrisons one Monday, they even had the store very very clean and the bastard didn't even show up.

I started working at Superdrug... SHOCK... TEN years ago this year! and finished there in 2000. In the last ten years the brand has been updated four times.

1. The original thick italic logo, still found on their bottles of UHT milk. ;) Uniform: White shirt and grey tie.
2. The capitalised Century Gothic bold look, that lasted about a year. The only branch exterior I recall being rebranded in this way was the one in Exeter. Uniform: Lemon yellow shirt that got grubby fast.
3. The 'starfish' logo. Small lowercase typeface and 'starfish' above the 'drug' bit. Shame the 'starfish' was referred to in the company as the 'cat's arsehole' as it resembled one. Uniform: Jade or pink polo tops and jumpers. Pot luck as to which colour you were assigned. Thankfully, I got a jade one. Dropped for Christmas 1998 in favour of these lurid blue jumpers with glitter angel wings on the back embazoned with the words "I'm an angel" And yes, I had to wear one!!!
4. Updated version of the above, on a black background, the 'starfish' now replaced by a star. Uniform: Black tops. Never wore one as I left the company before they were introduced. Black shirts?! Whose marketing idea was that? Mosley's great grandson?!

The problem with so many changes was that branch fascias couldn't keep up with them. So all four designs are still to be seen around the company. I bet some still have the original fittings inside too (they used to look a bit like Wilkinsons). If anyone cares, my branch in Hayward's Heath was refitted in 1998. ;)

How often have Supermarket logos changed, if ever?
ASDA and Tesco have remained pretty much the same since launch if I remember correctly?

Tesco had a font change sometime in the mid 1990's, they also dropped the stripes above the Tesco logo, which only appear on the carrier bags. Where as Asda did have a different logo in the 1980's, it is in the form of a couple of shapes making an A, with Asda next to it, but in normal text, no-where near the tackyness of the current logo, the only changes to that one is that it has gone more green!

I also went past an Asda Wal*Mart Super Centre at Trafford park yesterday, which has a McDonalds! I know there's one at Bristol, and I've been told one in Warrington is going to be upgraded to a Wal*Mart Supercentre.

I remember Sainsbury's used to have their logo before they went all modern and used to write "J SAINSBURY" or "SAINSBURY'S" in capitals on their stores and in corporate spiel.

Safeway too used to have their logo with a stylised "S" and SAFEWAY written in capitals before it all went into normal type and had a squiggly line underneath.

Morrisons is the worst of the lot. I don't think its changed for a good few decades if not at all.

The Plymouth city centre Sainsburys store STILL has J Sainsbury on the sign. Half the bulbs have gone in it too. The place doesn't seem to have changed since it was opened in the 80s.

I think they've kind of forgotten all about the store, with the other out-of-town store due for yet another extenstion and upgrade.

Our normal sized Asda has recently replaced its cafe with a McDonalds. It's right next to a comprehensive school too, so they must make a fortune!

Same here... and there's another McD just down the road from that.

For anyone who knows where Asda at Trafford Park is, it is opposite the massive Trafford Centre which has a McDonalds (it used to have 2!) and there's a retail park at the other side of The Trafford Centre that has, yes a McDonalds! There is also a retail park in Eccles about 5 minutes by road from The Trafford Centre that has a McDonalds!

Not surprising really, Warrington has two in the town centre area!
