I got Wanadoo BB the other week and will certainly welcome the double data rate but the bandwidth is a concern. To be fair, I don't think I use ~66mb a day but know that a couple of big downloads later, I could be limited. At least for this year (?) they're not capping.

I think they've been doing some research into usage - I had hoped they'd maybe extend it to 3gb but at least there is a mid-plan option of 6gb. It was a case of 15gb being way to much and 2gb, tight.

As I was only activated last week I'm going to ring up tonight and ask whether I can be kindly upgraded without the £20 charge.

Yeah I only got activated last week too, the limit I was told was in force, but apparantly it's not going into force until later this year.

Any existing Wanadoo customers, including myself are to have their line upgraded automatically without any additional charge. I e-mailed and got a reply today. So I'm happy.... well that's because I just got a load of Muffins and Donuts home from work... and paid... somethings bound to happen that makes things go wrong. lol

I think you mean it's not going to be enforced until later this year, although the BBC News article says "next year" as far as that's concerned.

I don't know why everyone moans about NTL.

I've been on their cable broadband service since January, and find it not bad at all. Until April I was on the 150k service (£17.99 I think it was), then I upgraded to the 1MB service, but after finding I wouldn't need such a fast service, I downgraded to 700k, which does the job. I do think that £24.99 a month is a bit steep for 700k, though, but then I have a 1GB download per day, whereas other service providers have a 1GB limit per month!

I've got a program which runs in my taskbar which records and displays my daily download usuage. Just browsing websites, downloading a few multimedia files, images, a couple of songs from Kazaa and I already downloaded 120MB of data in one day, and that's with no effort at all! The most I've downloaded in a single day is 745MB. That was only a few 320x240 episodes of the Simpsons from Kazaa, which only took around an hour or so.

My average download speed is around 90-120kbps. I can download 1MB of data in around 10 seconds.

Yes, NTL email sometimes goes on the blink, but it's usually only down for a few hours.

I've had Telewest 3MB broadband now for around 5 to 6 weeks (after being with PlusNet 512 for a couple of years) and love it.

The speed is actually closer to 4MB at most times when I am downloading software, etc.

I have internet radio on loads, plus download quite a few movies and MP3s (even though I know it's wrong and shouldn't do it) - 2GB per month is awful.

Yeah, NTL have a 1GB daily download limit. I reckon I'm quite a heavy broadband user, and yet I rarely go above 300MB in one day! The 1GB limit is there as a safeguard more than anything. There are some NTL users who have it hooked up to suprnova.org downloading full length DVD movies one after the other which eats up the download speed of the average bloke next door.

The program I use is called Online Eye - It's free for 15 days and I'm on day 6. I'll uninstall it when the trial runs out. I was only curious to see what my average download totals were for one week.

Whilst we are all salivating over stupidly capped 1Mb broadband, spare a thought for those in Sweden who have uncapped, symetrical 10Mbit broadband for 495 kroner (about £36).

Oh, no not here in England. They really need to up the ante here when it comes to broadband! Upgrade all those people on ISDN speed connections to a minimum of 512k FOC, 512k to 1Mb, 1Mb to 2Mb, 2Mb to 3Mb etc. Well, we can hope anyway. :roll:
