Why do other countries have different plug fittings, wouldn't it be much simpler if there was a universal type.

Oh and don't bother taking a digital telly with you - the Aussies don't have digital TV.

What they do have, however, is HDTV (High Defenition TeleVision) which is basically (I think) high-resoloution TV. I hadn't heard of it until it was mentioned in the Home & Away thread over at TV Forum but it'd be so nice if it took off here... we don't have HDTV but if you watch Home & Away over here on Five you can still see a noticeable improvement.

Yes, of course it would. But it would be a lot of hassle to change every plug in the world to the universal type.... let alone decide on what it should be

I think the European design seems the most robust, however I don't like the fact that they don't have switches like ours do.

What on earth is the socket like to get a plug with angled pins in?

There is also a two-pin plug, which will fit into the top holes of the socket:

I had the wrong idea with 'angled pins'. The diagram

had made me think 'angled' in terms of 'diverging', rather than, well, angled. I had thought the diagram was a profile, rather than a front-on view.
