Give me a cuddle. That'll sort you out.tvmercia wrote:i think i will probably regret saying this - but i wish i could hurry up and get swine flu. i'm looking ahead to booking my big holiday for late november and will no doubt be travelling through countries which scan on arrival. knowing my luck i will get the thing just before i depart.
given the amount of train travel i do, i can't understand why i haven't caught it yet.

Isn't your office entirely women? Consistency doesn't have to be a strong point.Gavin Scott wrote:Well I called my GP today. Feeling sore and feverish and a bit grim, and went through the Q&A session.
Been sent home (from work, oops) via the chemist to pick up Tamiflu. Remarkable how those who said, "It won't be flu, you look fine - it's just a head cold..." were the first ones to freak out and head to buy anti-bac sprays for the office.
Don't feel as bad as some of the stories I've read, but its something I could really do without.
Hey ho.

Why not go the whole hog. Have a Metro Swine Flu party.Gavin Scott wrote:Give me a cuddle. i've been suffering with the main swine flu symptoms for about 10 days and i had a horrible dry/sore throat for about a week before.
at the worst stage of the illness i was unable to function - it's the worst i think i've ever felt - the headaches were crushing, i don't really suffer from them too often, but i wasn't able to think. i just wanted to sleep.
the fevers were also almost like you see in a hollywood movie: i woke up completely soaked from head to toe. my pyjama bottoms i went to sleep in were completely soaked. for a moment i thought i'd pissed myself. the quilt was soaking. i've never had that happen. i'd go between boiling hot to freezing (chattering teeth, needing to hug a hot water bottle) within minutes. the funny thing was, the 'sweat' didn't even smell like sweat.
one of the other things i had was that my sinuses seemed to have been completely blocked. under so much pressure it felt like i'd been punched in the face.. this pounding sensation rarely went away. sudafed helped for a while but it came back again. the worst side effect of this particular element of the illness was that one morning i woke to a strange scratchy feeling at the back of my throat (almost like a bit of fluff)... i eventually pulled out a 10 pence sized clot of blood and snot from the back of my mouth. i nearly thew up.
i am fortunately on the mend now, i freely admit that i perhaps thought that the whole swine flu epedemic was somewhat of an over reaction - i've had the 'normal' flu a couple of times over the past few years it normally downs me for a week or so, but this was something else. awful. i really can see what it puts some people in hospital.

Take heart in the fact that you're the first person I've heard from to report symptoms that are that much worse than those you get from just having the swine flu jab.

from the people i've spoken to, it does seem i've perhaps come off a little worse than most.
the most frustrating thing was that i had loads of things planned to do over the christmas break (nothing major, but catch up with a few friends, sort out a few bits in the garden, visit a couple of local heritage sites and watch a few dvds i haven't seen in ages etc etc), but i ended up doing mostly nothing.
i'm happy that i had a great christmas and new years eve/day. that's the main thing. seems all so long ago now.
i'll be glad to get the damn tree down now. any sort of vibration causes it to drop something.

I haven't caught the flu, and sympathy's to everyone who has it. When I tried sending the flowers, the postman laughed at me, so you're not getting any...
But, because I feel I need to compare my pain to the people that have Swine Flu, I've had a cough for a few weeks/months. It's quite annoying, but dying down, but that's probably because I caught a cold.
