So this week Moyles is being streamed in video online. On a technical front it's a big big flash app with a vid in the middle, all hosted on http://bbcami.s3.amazonaws.com/moyles.html (apparently they've been ordered not to mention the intl viewers, wonder why)

It's certainly odd to watch a show being made rather than just listen to it and its nice to see radio 1 innovating in this way. Have any of the commercial stations done this before? I know many have the webcam that takes a photo but I've not seen full video before.

I think Radio 1 have played with this kind of video streaming before (although not using this kind of Flash app thing) and of course behind all the prettiness it's one big BBC A&Mi trial. On the one hand it's pretty clever and quite cool to see it all happening. On the other hand it ruins the whole magic of radio - in my opinion, once the intrigue wears off, it actually makes the programme less interesting. Plus the fact the audio feed is pre-processing and sounds rubbish. Maybe I'm just being negative because it sounds odd now they've ditched all the familiar jingles (including Tedious Link, no Ramble and new cheap Newsbeat beds), got a new website, and I'm moody cos I've just come off the nightshift.

Sky One used to simulcast Chris Evans on Virgin Breakfast for a while, if that counts.

I found that quite an interesting experiment, it only used to be from 7.30am to 8.30am and then repeated from 12pm to 1pm. When songs were played we got the videos instead, it looked quite professional despite that all they did was put a couple of camera's in the Virgin Radio studio. Don't know why it stopped, it made a change, even if it was only for an hour.

TalkSPORT bought some time on Sky channel at one time for the evening proggraming and their main studio was turned into a TV studio, some presenters presented to camara other didn't.

Not even new for the BBC. Kermode and Mayo have been doing it on fivelive on Friday afternoons for many many months, if not years.

Video in radio studios is nothing new, Five Live have produced many video podcasts for a while now. EDIT: The BBC Radio Labs blog (http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/radiolabs/20 ... ches.shtml) mentions Kermode on Five Live as well. However the type of video streaming that Radio 1 are trialling is new - it is a Flash app which shows a multi-camera setup together with live incoming texts, track info, polls and logs etc. I'm sure once the week is up they'll build on what they have now and we'll see it rolled out properly in the near future.

Setanta Sports 1 broadcast the Real Radio Scotland phone-in tribute to Phil O'Donnell, and IIRC we recently had a BBC Red Button option to view Five Live for the US Election?

Setanta Sports 2 usually broadcasts Real Radio's SPL phone-in's weekly anyway, although from what I've seen they have one hell of a cramped studio.

6-0-6 on Five Live does this kind of thing (at least for the Tuesday show with Danny Baker) but goes one step further - it's on the red button rather than just online.

Was the video streaming for last week only? Checking this morning there doesn't appear to be any video streaming available.
