I take your point. There are two ways that Art can be approached; the first way is to do with you writing (or performing) it, and the second is to do with understanding/interpreting art that has already been produced.

The second is much more typical of English degrees, for example, and I may just be closed-minded but I don't see the use of that other than as case studies to understand the principles for that medium.

I do maintain, however, that there is, or at least should be, a distinction between traditional academia and art that is reflected in how it is taught (although I do feel I'm getting kind of bogged down in semantics and "loaded" words). How hard it is to get accepted or get a degree doesn't IMO have much bearing on whether it is academic or not - although obviously I have a lot of respect for anyone with the endurance to go through it without the guarantee of a cushy job at the end of it, unlike many other vocational degrees. If learning it "is no differnet from the sciences", well, I view that as a problem with the emphasis in how it's taught, because while there is some scope for interpretation in every subject, art is all about interpratation.

Sadly I have neither photographic evidence nor the moxy to go up to him and say coooeeee. That's because I wasn't sure of the protocol for greeting a Hanson, especially when he's already engaged with someone that may have been an elder Hanson.

That part's easy, but I get mixed up with whether you're meant to use your hand next to your mouth to call over, and which hand to use if that's the case.
