I got a 1st class honours in politics back in 1988, and I am now doing a phd.

Fair enough, I do specialise in German politics, but I think I have a bit of a clue as far as british politics goes!

I think the right honourable Nick Harvey has a good point, what the BNP/NF used to stand for and stand for now are two different things.

Then again I would sooner have shot myself than vote for foot or kinnock, and I would sooner shoot myself than vote for new labour... so perhaps it makes no difference!

I was a great admirer of Thatcher. Callaghan left the country in a terrible state in 1979, and whilst Thatcher was often harsh, she got the job done; particularly in the case of paying off our debts.

I will point out once again that at the time of writing (5:30pm on Monday) Tories sit in front of the (albeit small) poll, with the BNP second. Point is, surely it's not just me.

One of my concerns is that the Tories are moving too far to the left.

That said; Cameron is many things but he surely can't be any worse than Blair.

I presume your thesis will be on the comic value of extremist leaders?

When I was about seven or eight years old, sometime around a general election, apparently I shocked my staunch Tory supporting great-aunt (a South African, if you must know) after watching a news report featuring Margaret Thatcher by stating that, "I don't know why anybody would want to vote for her - her smile never reaches her eyes."

But whatever your opinion on Thatcher at least you knew what she and her party stood for - which is more than can be said about today's bland offerings. Forgetting about Iraq for the moment, one of the mistakes Blair has made is trying to be all things to all people, and it's a path that David Cameron is also treading - and look what has happened. Dull, dull, dull. For God's sake! You're politicians! Whatever decisions you make in running the country, somebody is going to be pissed off with the results, whether it be the entire NHS or just 'Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells'. Stop pretending that you're going to make everybody happy and show some direction.

No wonder nobody cares about anything anymore.

You obviously didn't watch Dispatches on Channel 4 last week! I disliked Cameron before, but after seeing that documentary I find Cameron intolerable. If he ever becomes Prime Minister, then we're all doomed. Hopefully the Conservatives will realise what a snotty, policy-vacant leader they have and boot him out!

I'd rather have Cameron than Brown. Not really much choice, apart from Sir Ming, but he won't get enough support. So Cameron for me, I'm afraid.

I've found Dispatches to be less than accurate of late. Just a friendly warning!

It seems rather weird to be asking which party people would vote for in LOCAL elections. If local issues aren't above party politics then we're fucked.

That's the thing - a vote for the BNP or UKIP is never going to really count at the end of the day.

That's what they said about Blair when he took over from Major.

To be honest Labour haven't effected me badly that much (and no I'm not a DSS sponger as people like to call them. I work full time, pay tax, etc, etc.)

It's just that under the Tories in the 1980's my family was worse off but then again my old man worked for the Electric Board so that may explain a few things
